Murder in Polná(2016)
Murder in Polná is a historical drama based on a real 1899 Czech crime. When a young seamstress is found dead near the village of Věžnička with her throat cut, the local community seizes on a dangerous myth: that Jews murdered her to use her blood in Passover matzot. A Jewish drifter named Leopold Hilsner becomes the prime suspect, caught in a web of prejudice and circumstantial evidence. The series traces how antisemitic hysteria gripped the region, transforming a murder investigation into a showcase of mob mentality and judicial failure. Set against the backdrop of late imperial Austria-Hungary, the drama explores the collision between superstition, community pressure, and the fragile pursuit of truth in a society rife with religious intolerance.
