Looking Up at the Half-Moon is a series set during winter, following Yuichi, a young man hospitalized with hepatitis who repeatedly attempts escape—only to be caught and beaten by a stern nurse. His monotonous recovery takes an unexpected turn when he meets Rika, a girl his age in the adjacent building. Though captivated by her beauty, Yuichi quickly discovers she's manipulative and self-centered, yet he finds himself drawn to her anyway. When Rika finally reveals the truth about her condition, Yuichi understands the source of her cruelty: she's terminally ill with little time left to live. What begins as attraction transforms into something deeper as he grapples with her impending fate and his own feelings.
