The Oar(1999)

The Oar is a Japanese drama set in a world of moral compromise and family tension. Iwago, a former wrestling champion turned trafficker, buys and sells young girls to geisha houses—a trade that brings wealth but repels his devoted wife Kiwa. When Iwago brings home a girl he's rescued from being sold to China, Kiwa raises her alongside their two sons as a respectable daughter. The fragile household fractures when Iwago pursues a singer who becomes his mistress, forcing Kiwa to confront the cost of her husband's ambitions and the precarious bonds holding their family together.
