Strangers(1978)

Strangers is a British police procedural that aired on ITV from 1978 to 1982. Created by Murray Smith and based on Kenneth Royce's novel series, the show reunites Don Henderson and Dennis Blanch as Detective Sergeant George Bulman and Detective Constable Derek Willis. A team of detectives is assembled from across the country and stationed in the north of England, where their unfamiliarity with local communities becomes their greatest asset—allowing them to infiltrate cases where established local officers would be recognized and compromised. Though built around a core ensemble, most episodes feature only two or three regulars in significant roles, giving the series a flexible, case-driven structure that emphasizes investigative work over character continuity.
