Cheyenne is an American western series that follows Cheyenne Bodie, a former army scout drifting through the post-Civil War frontier taking work as a cowboy, lawman, and adventurer. Broadcast on ABC from 1955 to 1963, the show's 108 black-and-white episodes made television history as the first hour-long western and the first hour-long dramatic series with continuing characters to sustain beyond a single season. It was also the first original series produced by a major Hollywood studio—Warner Brothers—rather than adapted from existing film properties, launching a prolific run of WB television productions under producer William T. Orr.
