Golden Years(1986)

Golden Years is a Brazilian series set in 1950s Rio de Janeiro, following Lurdinha and Marcos as they fall in love despite fierce family opposition. She attends the prestigious Institute of Education while he studies at the Military College, both institutions in the Tijuca neighbourhood. When Lurdinha's conservative parents discover Marcos's background—his parents are separated—they move to sabotage the relationship at every turn. The series captures a pivotal moment in Brazilian history through the eyes of two young people caught between their hearts and their families' rigid social expectations. Golden Years explores themes of class, tradition, and youthful defiance against the constraints of post-war society.
