Dark Soldier: D is an anime series following Kawamata, a volatile soldier conscripted into a covert Russian weapons program during the Cold War. The organization develops an experimental mobile combat suit—a walking arsenal bristling with weaponry—designed to keep the Soviet Union ahead in the arms race. Matsuzaki, a disgraced Japanese scientist, becomes the project's lead engineer and embeds Kawamata's neural patterns into the suit's control system, making him the only operator capable of wielding it. When the Soviet Union collapses, Kawamata and Matsuzaki steal the prototype and smuggle it back to Japan, setting off a chain of dangerous consequences. The series blends military sci-fi action with psychological tension as Kawamata grapples with his role as the suit's sole master and the shadowy forces that pursue them.
