Maestro(2016)

Maestro is a Soviet drama following Pasha, a young engineer who returns to Odesa in 1988 after eight months working on a merchant ship. He undertook the grueling voyage to earn money for a cooperative apartment—a prerequisite set by Lili's father, a wealthy and influential Odesa businessman, before he'll consent to his daughter's marriage. Now back home, Pasha must navigate the gap between his modest means and the expectations of Lili's family. The film captures the tension between personal ambition and social class in late-Soviet Ukraine, exploring whether love can overcome the material demands of respectability.
