Minning Town(2021)

Minning Town is a documentary series following villagers from Ningxia who relocated to build a new settlement in China's harsh desert landscape. When the government encouraged farmers from Xiji County to migrate for rural housing development, most abandoned the project within days, unable to endure the extreme conditions. Ma Defu emerges as the driving force behind the community's survival, determined to convince residents to stay and establish roots. The turning point arrives in 1996 when China's central government launches a strategic partnership between eastern and western provinces, pairing Fujian with Ningxia for poverty alleviation initiatives. With renewed support and resources, Minning Town transforms from a struggling experiment into a thriving community, demonstrating the power of perseverance and coordinated development in one of China's most challenging environments.
