Renzo e Lucia is a television adaptation of Alessandro Manzoni's classic Italian novel The Betrothed, set in 17th-century Italy during a time of war and plague. Young Lucia loves the commoner Renzo, and the two plan to marry in secret. But when the powerful feudal lord Don Rodrigo learns of their romance and claims Lucia for himself, the lovers are forced to flee their village. Separated and hunted, they each endure harrowing trials—betrayal, violence, and the ravages of plague—that test their devotion to one another. The series follows their desperate journeys across a fractured landscape as they struggle to reunite and survive.
