The Red(2014)

The Red is a Chinese series set in 1937 Shanghai during Japan's invasion of China. Xu Tian, a color-blind accountant with military training, becomes entangled with a group of patriots after a chance encounter. Motivated by patriotic fervor, he uses his intellect to help transport vital materials for the resistance, drawing unwanted attention from Japanese occupiers. His circle expands to include Jin, a former conman turned businessman, and Tielin, a police officer in the French Concession. When pharmacist Tian Dan rents a room in his home after losing her parents in an incident connected to Xu, their fates intertwine further. Against the backdrop of national crisis, these characters navigate overlapping agendas driven by revenge, duty, self-interest, and ideology, each pursuing their own path through an era of war and occupation.
