The story of one of the people

Khaytarma is a historical drama centered on May 18, 1944, when Stalin ordered the forced deportation of the Crimean Tatar people. The film follows Amet-khan Sultan, a decorated Soviet pilot and twice Hero of the Soviet Union, who returns to his native town of Alupka on leave a year after the liberation of Sevastopol. His homecoming coincides with the tragic beginning of the mass deportation, forcing him to witness the upheaval of his own community. Khaytarma examines this pivotal and devastating moment in Crimean Tatar history through the eyes of a man caught between his military service and his people's suffering.
