Macbeth: Opéra National de Paris is a film of Verdi's opera, a coproduction between Paris and Novosibirsk that reimagines the Scottish tragedy through multimedia innovation. Director Tcherniakov strips away supernatural elements, anchoring the story in a claustrophobic modern setting—grey squares and austere apartment blocks captured via Google Earth imagery. The witches vanish; psychological tension replaces spectacle. Violeta Urmana delivers a commanding performance as Lady Macbeth, while Greek baritone Dimitris Tiliakos embodies the ambitious protagonist with raw power. Ferruccio Furlanetto and Stefano Secco round out a stellar cast as Banquo and Macduff. Teodor Currentzis conducts with theatrical flair, bringing Verdi's score to vivid life in his second production for the Paris Opera.
