Verdi: Otello is a film recording of Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher's psychological reimagining of Verdi's operatic masterpiece, based on Shakespeare's tragedy. Conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads the orchestra through the score's turbulent emotional landscape. Aleksandrs Antonenko stars as Otello, a triumphant Venetian general whose confidence unravels under the poisonous manipulation of his trusted friend Iago, played by Željko Lučić. Sonya Yoncheva portrays Desdemona, Otello's devoted wife caught in the crossfire of jealousy and deceit. The cast includes Günther Groissböck as Lodovico and Dimitri Pittas as Cassio. Sher's production strips away operatic convention to expose the raw psychology beneath Shakespeare's tale of ambition, betrayal, and tragic downfall.
