The Disappearance of "Eagle"(1941)

The Disappearance of "Eagle" is a Soviet historical film set in 1920, during the Russian Civil War. When the Red Army closes in on Novorossiysk, the naval vessel Oryol sits vulnerable in port. Mikhail Gruzdev, a communist boatswain hiding aboard, persuades Captain Chistyakov to reclaim the ship for the Red cause. Instead, Chistyakov sails the Oryol away with White Guard forces, vanishing into history. Decades later, Gruzdev, now captain of another vessel, remains convinced of Chistyakov's betrayal and launches a determined search for the legendary ship and its crew. The film traces this obsessive quest to uncover what became of the Oryol and settle an old score rooted in revolution and loyalty.
