La strada più lunga is an Italian drama set during the final years of World War II. Michele, a bourgeois intellectual who once embraced fascism, returns home in 1943 exhausted from fighting abroad. Disillusioned, he refuses to join the Republic of Salò, the Nazi-backed puppet state. His former comrades pressure him to rejoin their ranks, but Michele resists their calls. As the war intensifies and Italy fractures, neutrality becomes impossible. Michele must navigate the dangerous terrain between competing loyalties, ideology, and survival as the conflict closes in around him.
