Osing(1985)

Osing is a Korean drama following seven-year-old Shin, who is sold into servitude with only a 50-cent coin from her grandmother. Accused of theft and brutally beaten, she flees to the mountains where she meets Jin-ho, a deserter soldier. The two form a tender bond as he teaches her to read, but their refuge is shattered when soldiers discover them and kill Jin-ho. Devastated, Shin returns to the lowlands carrying his harmonica, only to face renewed abuse from her father. Desperate to escape, she searches for her mother, a kisaeng, but realizes she cannot stay. Learning her grandmother is dying, Shin returns home transformed, determined to break the cycle of poverty that has defined her family's suffering.
