Realm of the Volga is a nature documentary series that explores Europe's mightiest river across three years of filming and countless expeditions. Stretching over 3,500 kilometers, the Volga is Russia's natural lifeline, flowing through ancient forests, vast steppes, and semi-arid deserts before emptying into the Caspian Sea—Earth's largest inland lake. The river's catchment area dwarfs France, Spain, and Portugal combined, sustaining ecosystems found nowhere else on the continent. The Altayfilm team and their Russian partners capture rarely documented wildlife behavior through sweeping aerial cinematography and intimate ground-level sequences.
