Brilliant Creatures is a documentary series that follows Booker Prize winner Howard Jacobson as he traces the lives and influence of four Australian cultural icons: Germaine Greer, Barry Humphries, Clive James, and Robert Hughes. Rather than simply documenting their participation in the 1960s cultural revolution, the series argues that these figures were instrumental in shaping and leading it. Jacobson examines how each of these Australian giants made their mark on literature, comedy, criticism, and art during a transformative era, revealing the outsized impact they had on global culture. Through interviews, archival footage, and personal reflection, Brilliant Creatures explores what drove these remarkable individuals to leave Australia and become some of the most influential voices of their generation.
