Hotel Saltwater is a Taiwanese series following Li Wen-hsin, a young activist arrested during the December 10, 1979 Formosa Magazine demonstration. Imprisoned in a facility inmates grimly call the "Hotel Saltwater," Wen-hsin survives by mixing salt water with rice while enduring brutal conditions. The series weaves together his memories of his girlfriend A-chun, cherished moments with friends and family, and his unwavering commitment to democracy. Despite the suffering inflicted by his captors, Wen-hsin and his fellow prisoners refuse to abandon their hunger for freedom. Hotel Saltwater portrays a pivotal moment in Taiwan's political history through the eyes of those who sacrificed their liberty for democratic ideals, capturing both the personal cost of resistance and the resilience of the human spirit.
