Culture Shock
Culture Shock
Culture Shock is a documentary series that explores the lived experience of being a pioneer in predominantly white spaces. The show follows students who are often the first of their kind—the first Black girl, the first openly queer student, the first from a low-income background—navigating elite institutions and artistic communities. Rather than celebrating their achievements, Culture Shock examines the psychological weight of that distinction: the isolation, self-doubt, and pressure that can transform art from a liberating pursuit into an exhausting burden. Through intimate interviews and observational storytelling, the series reveals how systemic barriers and tokenism complicate creative expression for those breaking into spaces not built for them. Culture Shock offers a candid look at resilience, identity, and the hidden costs of being first.
