Rooks(2026)

Rooks is a Russian crime thriller set in 1947 Leningrad, where police captain Alexander Ratnikov investigates a string of brutal murders. His investigation leads him to Pavel Vedernikov, a fish farm technologist who is revealed to be Gunther Seiler, a former Nazi concentration camp deputy commander hiding in plain sight as a Soviet citizen. Seiler is systematically hunting for his family's art collection, lost during the war, and will kill anyone who stands in his way. For Ratnikov, the case becomes personal: Seiler may hold the key to finding his own daughter, who vanished during the conflict. As the captain closes in, a tense cat-and-mouse game unfolds between the determined investigator and a ruthless war criminal desperate to escape beyond Soviet borders.
