Weir of Hermiston(1973)

Weir of Hermiston is a drama set on the Scottish borders, following the fractured relationship between Lord Adam Weir, a ruthless hanging judge who terrorizes Edinburgh's courts, and his son Archie. Adam's cruelty extends to his pious wife, whose death leaves Archie consumed by hatred for his father. When Archie pursues law with progressive ideals that clash sharply with his father's brutal conservatism, he attends one execution too many. Unable to contain his disgust, Archie publicly denounces the judge—a defiant act that costs him dearly. Banished to manage the remote Hermiston estate as punishment, Archie must confront his past and forge his own path away from his father's shadow.
