The Protectors(1972)
The Protectors is a British action thriller series created by Gerry Anderson and produced by ITC Entertainment. Airing from 1972 to 1973, it marked Anderson's second venture into live-action television and his only series set firmly in the contemporary world without science fiction or fantasy elements. The show starred Robert Vaughn as Harry Rule, Nyree Dawn Porter as the Contessa Caroline di Contini, and Tony Anholt as Paul Buchet, with notable guest actors appearing throughout its 52 episodes. Despite departing from Anderson's signature puppet-based format, The Protectors became one of his most successful productions, earning a swift renewal for a second season. A planned third season never materialized when the show's major sponsor withdrew funding, leading to its cancellation. Each episode ran 25 minutes, making it among the last series of its kind produced in the half-hour format.
