Katri: Girl of the Meadows(1984)

Katri: Girl of the Meadows is a Finnish series set during the First World War. Young Katri is left in the care of her grandparents after her mother departs for Germany. Despite her age, she proves herself capable, managing the family property and taking work as a herder for a local farmer. Through her labour in the countryside, Katri forms friendships with two neighbourhood boys. The series captures rural Finnish life during wartime, following a determined girl navigating responsibility, community, and growing up in a landscape shaped by conflict.
