Wo Zhe Yi Bei Zi(2001)

Wo Zhe Yi Bei Zi is a Chinese historical drama set in early 20th-century Beijing, following three young men—Fuhai, Liu Fangzi, and Zhao Er—who train together in the traditional funeral trade at Dacheng Workshop. Though unrelated by blood, they bond as brothers until history pulls them apart. Fuhai, the principled eldest, abandons his craft to become a patrolman alongside the lazy, pleasure-seeking Zhao Er, while Liu Fangzi pursues wealth and power through cunning. When Fuhai marries the gentle Miss Rui, he glimpses a chance at stability. Yet as Beijing shifts under new rule, the series asks whether an honest man can find peace in such turbulent times. Adapted from Lao She's novella, the drama explores loyalty, ambition, and survival against the backdrop of a transforming city.
