It pays to be nice.

The Neighborhood follows Dave Johnson, a relentlessly friendly Midwesterner who uproots his family to Los Angeles and settles in a working-class neighborhood where his earnest charm meets immediate resistance. His new next-door neighbor Calvin, a no-nonsense local, becomes the primary obstacle to Dave's mission to build community bonds. The sitcom mines comedy from the clash between Dave's well-meaning but often misguided attempts at neighborly gestures and Calvin's skepticism toward his white-bread enthusiasm. As the series progresses, their antagonistic relationship gradually softens into genuine friendship, anchoring the show's exploration of cultural differences, prejudice, and the possibility of connection across divides. The ensemble cast rounds out the neighborhood with colorful characters who navigate their own conflicts and growth alongside the central odd-couple dynamic.
