Peaceful Times follows the Striesow family after their 1961 escape from East Germany to the West, where tranquility proves elusive. Irene struggles with homesickness for the GDR, wrestles with jealousy over her husband Dieter's rumored infidelities, and lives in constant dread of nuclear war. When domestic tensions finally explode, their three children—Ute, Wasa, and Flori—attempt to restore their mother's happiness through well-intentioned meddling that spirals into unforeseen chaos. This dark comedy examines Cold War anxieties and family dysfunction through the lens of a household caught between two worlds, unable to find solid ground in either.
