Remains is a dark period drama that follows a Windrush migrant hired as a servant on a grand estate. Tasked with maintaining the manor and its collection of colonial artefacts, he gradually uncovers a sinister truth: he was never meant to work there at all. Instead, he's been acquired as part of the estate's most prized possessions. The film explores themes of exploitation, racism, and dehumanization with unflinching intensity, examining the hidden brutality beneath the veneer of English country life. As the protagonist's reality shifts from employee to captive, Remains becomes a haunting meditation on the lasting legacy of colonialism and the invisible chains that bound people of colour in post-war Britain.
