Libera(1993)
Out with the out crowd.
Libera is a three-part Italian film that explores desire, deception, and survival through the lives of three Neapolitan women. In the first segment, a wealthy woman named Aurora is robbed by a former lover who returns to seduce her. The second follows a boy fresh from reform school who discovers his mother is actually his transgender father. The third centers on a newsagent who, suspecting her husband of infidelity, secretly films his encounters and sells the footage at her stand. Director Toni Corsicato, making his feature debut after assisting Pedro Almodóvar, crafts sharp, poetic portraits that double as intimate studies of Naples itself. The film balances dark humor with genuine pathos, revealing how ordinary people navigate betrayal and reinvention in their everyday lives.
