Wattstax is a documentary capturing the 1972 concert held in Los Angeles, billed as the Black Woodstock and staged seven years after the Watts riots. Director Mel Stuart interweaves performance footage from the star-studded event with scenes of daily life in the Watts neighborhood, creating a portrait of the community and its cultural moment. The film documents both the energy and celebration of the concert and the ongoing realities facing residents in the aftermath of the 1965 uprising.
