Orpheus and Eurydice(2008)
Orpheus and Eurydice is a dance-opera that brings the classical myth to life through Pina Bausch's bold choreography and staging. The production follows Orpheus as he attempts a desperate rescue of his beloved Eurydice from the underworld, only to face the tragic consequences of his own doubt. Yann Bridard and Marie-Agnès Gillot lead the cast, supported by mezzo-soprano Maria-Riccarda Wesseling and soprano Julia Kleiter. Bausch adapted the work from Christoph Willuck-Gluck's 1762 opera, transforming it into a visceral exploration of love, loss, and human fragility. Rolf Borzik's striking set and costume design complements the emotional intensity of the piece. The Balthasar-Neumann Ensemble and Choir, conducted by Thomas Hengelbrock, provide the musical foundation for this unforgettable interpretation of an ancient story.
