Illumination(2004)

Illumination is a Icelandic drama about Ildutt, a man struggling to rebuild his life after a traumatic fishing trip in Scotland left him unmoored. Haunted by visions of Christina, his grandmother's nurse, Ildutt retreats to the Scottish highlands determined to recover his sanity and win her affection. He commits to therapy and self-improvement, yet remains drawn to a mysterious guru whose teachings threaten to destabilize him further. As Christina drifts in and out of his world—sometimes flesh, sometimes phantom—Ildutt slowly anchors himself to reality: his family, his few friends, his old Mercedes convertible, and a bass guitar waiting to be played again. The film traces his fragile journey from psychological dissolution toward tentative healing, grounded in the landscape beside the Lorient river.
