Mystification ou L'histoire des portraits is a French comedy about an eccentric speech therapist named Richard who recruits his friend Raphael to help destroy compromising photographs kept by his ex-girlfriend, Mademoiselle Dornet. Desperate to erase evidence of their past relationship before his upcoming marriage, Richard and Raphael devise an elaborate scheme: they hire an actor to impersonate a Turkish doctor and convince Dornet that destroying the photos will cure her depression. What begins as a simple plan to recover old pictures spirals into a farcical web of deception and mistaken identities. The film explores themes of memory, vanity, and the lengths people will go to rewrite their personal histories, all wrapped in absurdist humor that plays with perception and performance.
