V2-Day is a 2008 Italian political documentary following comedian and activist Beppe Grillo's grassroots campaign to gather signatures for three referendums. Held on April 25 across 500 squares in Italy and abroad, the initiative challenged public financing of journalism organizations and the controversial Gasparri law. Organized under the banner "Free information in a free state," V2-Day built on Grillo's earlier V-Day movement from 2007, which had similarly mobilized citizens around direct democracy. The film captures a pivotal moment in Italian civic activism, documenting how ordinary people engaged with constitutional reform through signature collection and public assembly. It reflects the growing tension between traditional media structures and demands for transparency in Italian politics during the late 2000s.
