The Secret of the Seventeen is a family adventure film about four boys—Lothar, Olaf, Bob, and their friends—tasked with guarding a castle overlooking their town. When their mischief gets them fired and banned from the town's 800th anniversary celebration, they devise a plan to reclaim their position. Inspired by local legend, they believe Hussite warriors from Bohemia once stormed the castle, and they see themselves as the rightful heirs to that legacy. While Olaf pushes for a direct assault, Lothar and Bob advocate for a different approach: honest work and archaeological discovery. The boys repair the castle ramparts and search for evidence of the Hussite occupation. Their efforts pay off—they uncover proof of the legend, restore their reputation, and earn their place at the celebrations.
