Himmlerin kanteleensoittaja is a historical drama following a Finnish student who abandons his studies at the Sorbonne in spring 1935 to walk from Paris to Helsinki. During his journey through Germany, he encounters Heinrich Himmler, who becomes fascinated by the kantele, a traditional Finnish stringed instrument. Himmler recruits him as a researcher for the Ahnenerbe institute, tasking him with uncovering Aryan roots within the runic singing traditions of Finnish Carelia. The film explores this unlikely meeting between a young scholar and one of Nazi Germany's most notorious figures, set against the backdrop of pre-war Europe and the pseudoscientific racial theories that gripped the era.
