The Life of Darkness(1940)

The Life of Darkness follows a middle-class family torn apart by conflicting ambitions and moral decline. The father, a lawyer, pressures his son to follow the same path, but the young man dreams of becoming a novelist instead. Caught between his own aspirations and his father's expectations, he falls under the influence of dissolute friends who pull him deeper into a world of excess and corruption. His descent accelerates as he embezzles his father's money and steals his mother's jewelry to fund his mistress's lavish lifestyle.
