The Path She Chose(1920)

The Path She Chose is a silent drama about a young woman determined to escape poverty and shame. Virginia Clerson grows up in a household of drunkenness and petty crime, her father a drunk and her siblings mired in theft and degradation. She flees to find work at a millinery factory, reinventing herself by claiming her family is dead. Through hard work and ambition, Virginia rises to superintendent and wins the love of her employer, Frederick Parker. She even rescues her sister Laura from scrubwoman's drudgery.
