The Hussy(1979)

The Hussy is a French drama following François, a twenty-year-old drifter who survives by collecting bottles and scrap metal. Living under his mother and stepfather's roof, he exists on society's margins. When he abducts eleven-year-old Mado—a neglected child struggling to connect with her family—he brings her to hide in his parents' attic. Rather than fear, Mado embraces their strange arrangement, and an unexpected bond forms between them. They find solace and affection in each other's company, their relationship deepening in isolation. When authorities discover them, however, they interpret the situation far more sinisterly, forcing a reckoning neither could have anticipated. The film explores themes of loneliness, belonging, and how society judges those on its fringes.
