On My Green Land...(1958)

On My Green Land is a Soviet-era drama about industrial ambition and environmental consequence. Kirilyuk, director of a timber processing plant, plans to clear-cut Oleniy Top, a vast forest overlooking a village below. The scheme promises to meet his production quotas and restore his reputation as an efficient manager. But felling the forest on the steep slope risks catastrophic erosion; heavy rains could trigger a landslide that destroys the village itself. The film pits Kirilyuk's drive for personal success against the safety of an entire community, exploring the tension between economic progress and ecological stewardship in the Soviet system.
