Carver's Gate(1996)

Carver's Gate is a science fiction film set in a future where humanity lives in sky cities above an uninhabitable ground, passing time in virtual reality. Carver works as a dream-breaker, entering VR worlds to repair glitches and maintain the system. When his friend Dinah is murdered inside the virtual world—something that should be impossible—Carver investigates and uncovers a dangerous secret: Dinah has built a transducer that lets people enter VR without equipment. But the device creates a rift between worlds. People slip into the virtual realm while creatures from the game bleed into reality, threatening both dimensions. Carver must navigate the collapsing boundary between what's real and what's simulated before the two worlds destroy each other.
