Philharmonic(1944)

Philharmonic is a drama about ambition and family loyalty in the classical music world. Alexander Schonath, a gifted violinist and first chair of a philharmonic orchestra, abandons his post when financial troubles strike—a decision his fellow musicians, including his father, view as betrayal. While Alexander pursues a lucrative career in a dance band, his younger brother Hans, chronically ill but determined, seizes the opportunity to advance within the philharmonic and becomes engaged to Maria, daughter of the orchestra's chairman. The film explores the tension between artistic integrity and survival, as well as the complicated bonds between brothers competing in the same world.
