Relativity(2002)

Relativity is a darkly comic short film that deconstructs truth through multiple perspectives. Inspired by Rashomon, it follows a minor domestic accident involving seven-year-old Cielle, her Black British mother Marcia, and Marcia's boyfriend Frank—each offering a starkly different account of what happened. The film examines how memory, bias, and self-interest shape our versions of reality, finding absurdist humor in the gap between competing narratives. Sharp and sexy in tone, Relativity captures the fragmentation of modern family life through a deceptively simple premise. It won Best Short Film at the Berlinale and earned a nomination for the European Film Academy Awards.
