Roots(2020)

Roots is a Russian drama series about Dima Korolev, a successful Moscow executive who returns to his small hometown of Zaleshchinsk after a decade away. His mission is straightforward: acquire the local recreation center to make way for a shopping mall development. But Dima's carefully laid plans unravel when he reconnects with Alyona, his ex-girlfriend and the recreation center's director, who stands in his way. As old feelings resurface and his extended family reminds him of where he came from, Dima must confront the cost of his ambition and whether progress always means leaving the past behind. The series explores themes of homecoming, love, and the tension between personal success and community ties.
