Starting Out

Starting Out is an Australian soap opera that premiered on the Nine Network in 1983, replacing The Young Doctors. Set at a medical college, the series follows a young cast navigating their first experiences living independently away from home. The ensemble includes Gary Sweet, David Clencie, Nikki Coghill, Tottie Goldsmith and Peter O'Brien, supported by established actors Maurie Fields, Gerard Maguire, Jill Forster and Anne Phelan. Despite its promising premise, Starting Out struggled to find an audience and was cancelled after just five episodes. The remaining eighty episodes aired later that year outside the regular ratings period, marking a brief but notable entry in Australian television drama.
