Downfall is a Portuguese series following the unraveling of a disgraced politician under house arrest. After an anonymous tip, former minister Álvaro Vieira Branco faces investigation for lobbying and abuse of power, confined to his mansion with an electronic bracelet. Criminal inspector Gonçalo Schmidt finally has grounds to probe what he's long suspected: Vieira Branco's lavish lifestyle far exceeds any legitimate income. Trapped in his luxury home, the former minister must navigate a shrinking world while juggling mounting debts, hunting for the whistleblower, and clinging to whatever political influence remains. He relies on his longtime lawyer David Rebelo Morais, sympathetic politicians, and his loyal foreman Zé Mário to orchestrate his escape. As the walls close in, Vieira Branco's desperation grows, revealing the corruption and moral compromises that built his empire.
