Mysterious Island(1995)

Mysterious Island is a Canadian television series adapted from Jules Verne's classic novel. A group of Civil War refugees escapes in a hot air balloon, only to crash on a remote Pacific island in the middle of the ocean. As they build a makeshift society and await rescue, they gradually realize an unseen presence is orchestrating their every move. That presence is Captain Nemo, who monitors the island through advanced steampunk technology and treats the castaways as unwilling test subjects. Unlike Verne's version, this Nemo is calculating and cruel, deliberately creating crises to prove his theory that humans are fundamentally selfish and corrupt. The series adds a new female character, Pencroft's wife, to the original cast. As Nemo's experiments grow increasingly brutal, the castaways devise a plan to expose him and breach his hidden lair. The finale delivers a final twist when Nemo abandons them on the island, leaving their fate uncertain. The show ran for one season in 1995.
