The Slave Isaura(2004)

The Slave Isaura is a Brazilian historical drama following a woman born into slavery on a plantation in 1835. Isaura's mother, a slave named Juliana, dies shortly after her birth—killed by the farm's commander in brutal retaliation for refusing his advances. Raised by the commander's wife, Gertrudes, who longed for a daughter, Isaura receives an education and refinement unusual for someone of her station. Yet despite her fair skin and cultured upbringing, Isaura cannot escape the cruel reality of her birth: she remains enslaved. The series explores the impossible contradictions of her position—educated but powerless, refined but despised—as she navigates a society determined to deny her humanity based on her mother's bondage.
