Et Alors(2003)

Et Alors is a Japanese drama series based on Watanabe Junichi's novel. Takafumi Kurusu, a doctor who inherits his father's nursing home in central Tokyo, struggles to adapt to the facility's philosophy of respecting residents' autonomy. Overwhelmed by their vitality and unconventional attitudes, he finds himself adrift and melancholic. As Takafumi navigates daily life among the home's spirited inhabitants, he gradually transforms his understanding of love and purpose. The series explores how an encounter with aging residents teaches him the liberating French concept of "et alors"—a philosophical acceptance that challenges his rigid worldview and reshapes his entire approach to living.
